Fashion Fail: Kelis and Usher

Okay so these two pictures popped up on a few blogs and I just needed to put my two cents in.

This is a fashion fail for Kelis simply because of how she put the outfit together.  My personal rule for outerwear i.e. jackets, cardigans is to start with a blank canvas.  What I mean by a blank canvas is a simple top, i,e, a white shirt or something that won't distract from the outer garment.  Kelis' top is too loud with that jacket so you get a feeling of its "too busy".  I honestly can't appreciate the detailing in the leather jacket because of the brightness of the top underneath it.  Also the scarf was unnecessary.  She is accessorizing too much here.  If she was going to do a scarf she definitely should have went without the jacket.  I feel like the jacket should be the major focus and you can't hardly see it because of everything else she has going on.

Side note: not saying you can't wear this top with a jacket just saying Kelis' jacket is very detailed so you want to keep the undergarment simple so it stands out.  If she was wearing a plain black leather jacket her top wouldn't be that much of a problem.







This is a fashion fail for Usher because of the way the suit is tailored.  You have to take this ensemble in context when you look at it and seeing as tho this is a black tie formal ball Usher's suit should have been tailored to fit better than this.  Not to mention a collar shirt and tie/bow-tie would have been more appropriate.  This look reeks of Kanye and its his signature so I don't understand why Usher would try to pull it off, its so not him.  Please men remember at a formal black tie event tailored suits are what is best.















What are your thoughts on these two ensembles?  What are some of your reasons why you don't think they work?  Everyone has different rules when it comes to personal dress so what works for some may not work for others.
